BYU Men's Soccer Recruiting

Prospective Student Athlete:

B.Y.U. is committed to providing the best opportunity to improve and showcase the skills of our Student Athletes. B.Y.U. competes in the Premier Development Leagues Western Division. This league has proven to be more competitive than the traditional college soccer league, the NCAA. This league, combined with our International travel allows our student athletes to represent our Church at the very highest level possible. Over the last 5 years we have competed against Professional clubs in Spain, (FC Barcelona), Holland, (VV Sittard), Mexico, (Pachuca, Monterrey) and Costa Rica (Saprissa).

Below are some of the most common concerns regarding incoming student athletes and our tryout.

Academics

As a team we are anxious to have the very best Student Athletes who are academically qualified within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The average G.P.A. for incoming freshmen is a 3.8 G.P.A. and a 28 on the ACT, (SAT equivalent) Our program can help a few players gain admission each year. Qualified Student Athletes must:

1. Have completed an application for full time enrollment at B.Y.U.

2. Have a minimum High School G.P.A. of 3.3 and a minimum ACT of 23.

International Students

International students must be accepted to the University before the tryout. To be considered for assistance with admissions, prospective players must either be seen in person or submit a video to be reviewed.

Recruits

Each year we recruit 2-4 incoming freshmen for our upcoming team. These recruits have the only guaranteed spots on our team and are usually identified the summer before their Senior year in High School. These guaranteed spots are vital to the recruiting process to ensure the recruits do not accept another collegiate offer.

Each Recruit has been seen in person, usually several times, or in rare cases, identified in a video evaluation. The vast majority of our players were identified during our summer camps. A member of our staff will be at Summer Surf Cup, Thanksgiving Surf Cup and Western Regionals (USYSA).

A prospect who is not a 'recruit' is welcome to the tryout and will be given every opportunity to make our roster.

Scholarships

The B.Y.U. Soccer team does not award scholarships. Each player provides their own money for expenses with regard to academics and room and board. Players travel expenses and attire are paid for as members of the team.

"If you have questions, email assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Chad Sackett (csackett@byu.edu)."
