PROVO, Utah (Feb. 10, 2010) -- The Premier Development League announced its 2010 schedule, including 16 games for the BYU Cougars. All 16 games are against southwest division opponents with each team playing a home and home with each other.
“We’re excited to play home and home with everybody to have an equitable schedule”, said BYU head coach, Chris Watkins. “We feel like with all the players we have returning from injury and missions, that we’re in great shape for 2010.”
BYU begins the season Saturday, May 8 at 2006 Western Conference Champion, Orange County Blue Star. BYU will take a week off before playing the first of eight home games this season. Division runner-up Los Angeles and Lancaster visit Provo on the 21st and 22nd. BYU finishes the month of May by traveling to play L.A. for the second time in seven days on May 27 and then Southern California on the 29th.
The next week BYU will travel to play its hardest road trip of the season, at 2009 southwest division champion, Hollywood Hitmen on June 3 and then at 2009 PDL Champion, Ventura County Fusion on June 5. BYU beat Hollywood and tied Ventura County last year at home.
June 18 and 19 BYU will host Southern California and Orange County. The 24th and 26th features a return trip to California to play at Fresno and Lancaster.
The Cougars won’t leave the state of Utah in July with four consecutive home games and a regular season finale at Ogden. The final home game and senior night is July 16 versus Fresno.
BYU hopes to return to the playoffs for the first time since winning the Northwest division in 2007 and reaching the PDL Elite Eight in 2006 and 2007.
The PDL features 68 teams, eight divisions and four conferences. The top two teams in each division make the playoffs to form a 16-team, single elimination playoff. The division champs play the division runner-ups from the other division in each conference, then a second round followed by the semifinals and championship game.
