Wednesday's match proved a much-needed triumph for the BYU men's soccer team, which, despite severely lacking energy during the match, was able to solidify a 1-0 win against the Outlaws and put the in-state rivals' record at 2-1.

“Our guys were tired tonight. It wasn't the prettiest game to watch,” head coach Chris Watkins explained. “But we felt like we deserved to win and ultimately did so.”

BYU's only goal came in the game's 71st minute after a foul on forward Zack DeFrancis resulted in a free kick for the Cougars, which midfielder Richie Bindrup curved into the top corner of the Ogden net from 25 yards out.

The game marked the third time the Cougars have faced the Outlaws this season, with their final game against the team this Saturday evening.

Despite lackluster energy, the team was boosted by two of its freshman stars. Second-year freshman forward Rich Harrison continued to make a name for himself during the match, which also saw newcomer Trevor Henderson holding his own against the Cougars' biggest rival team.

“We played a bit flat tonight,” Watkins continued. “Our guys are contributing and doing better, and it's getting there.”

The Cougars play the Outlaws again this Saturday night. Following the match, fans will be able to enjoy a fireworks display from their stadium seats.
