Brigham Young University Cougars played their second game in the USL PDL matchup on Saturday in what turned out to be 90 minutes packed with action and excitement. With Fuego’s recent win on Thursday they were ready for another one, but BYU was prepared and wasn’t going down without a fight.
The BYU Cougars took on Fresno Fuego Thursday in an intense match off between the PDL teams. Both teams played aggressive offense during the first half. Fuego started strong with a shot on goal blocked by Cougar Keeper Brenden Ottman. The Cougars answered with aggression with back to back shots on goal from Pemberton and Hunter.
Our BYU Cougars took on San Francisco City Football Club in strong defensive showing from both teams. Number five Ethan Meyers started the action with a shot on goal but was deflected by the SFCFC defense. The Cougars continued strong through the first half with a great steal from Junior Lartey, shot on goal from Ryan Botcherby and some great saves from keeper Brenden Ottman. The first half finished 0-0.
“We’ve work on being connected as a unit for like four months now,” Ottman said. “So, we’re prepared to face any offense.”

BYU men’s triumphed over the Burmingame Dragons 2-1 during the Cougar’s home opener on Saturday night.
BYU came out of the gate with a lot of aggression and dominated the field for the first few minutes of the game taking passion of the ball for the majority of the first half.
Cougars look to “focus forward” for Saturday’s home opener
The BYU Men’s Soccer team traveled to the California and the Las Vegas last week to kick of this year’s PDL season. Head coach Brandon Gilliam said of last week’s trip, "Three road games in five days to kick off your season is about as hard a start as you can get and the players performed outstanding.”
Denver, Co- BYU Men’s Soccer was defeated by the Denver Pioneers 2-1 on Apr. 9 on the road in a back and forth battle in Denver, Colorado.
Denver was first to put points on the board as they knocked one in near the post from 30 yards out to take the lead 0-1 with eight minutes left in the first half.
With four minutes remaining in the first half, Connor Fordham of the Cougars crossed the ball, leading Taylor Fankhauser to flick it on, with Pedro Vasconcelos making the finish. The score leading into the second half was tied at 1-1.
The sport of soccer is much more than a dream for many people around the world, it is a way of life. As kids grow up watching their favorite players, kicking the ball back and forth in the streets, on a field, or anywhere they can find open space, they experience a feeling of liberation, freedom, and fulfillment that cannot be experienced any other way.
PROVO, Utah (Mar. 12,2016)— BYU Men’s Soccer team defeated the United Soccer League Real Monarchs 2-1 in their second scrimmage of the season on Friday, Mar. 11 at the America First Field in Sandy.
The team’s first match took place in February where they had a closed door friendly in Provo Utah. It was the first time during the new season the Cougars had the opportunity to play on a full size field, and the Monarchs took the victory.
