Provo, Utah (May 9, 2009) — Trevor Henderson is definitely not a one-trick pony.

A talented offensive player, the Timpanogos High School senior plays in a rock band, Desert Noise, that shares a record label with Joshua James and that has gone on tours to several states.

Athletically, he played football and basketball growing up and ran track in high school and he’s not so shabby in soccer, either.

Henderson has played for a number of prestigious club teams including Utah-based La Roca as well as the Real Salt Lake youth development team and the Utah Olympic Development Program.

The forward was recruited by a number of highly ranked college programs, such as New Mexico, Air Force, Navy, Santa Clara and UNLV.

“There are days that I wake up and think, ‘Wow, how did I get so lucky as to make it here?’” Henderson ask. “Things happen so fast and I have never not wanted anything I’ve gotten, but all I’ve done is just try to work hard for each opportunity that presents itself.

One of BYU’s incoming freshman recruits, Henderson has worked hard from a young age to get where he is now, but that achievement didn’t come without a degree of sacrifice.

“I could have gone a lot of places, but I made a choice,” Henderson explains. “I got a feeling about BYU I didn’t get from other schools—it felt like it was right where I should be. Other places wanted me to put off a mission to play for them, but sometimes you put things off and then they don’t happen and I didn’t want anything to do with that.”

Confident and accomplished on and off the playing field, the future Cougar can admit he’s not been impervious to an embarrassing moment or two. In particular, he remembers one game where tried a little too hard to make a play.

“I turned and tripped over myself,” Henderson begins. “The other guy was just standing there, not going at me, not making an attempt to get past me and I just fell over. It’s never a good thing when someone is trying to look good with fancy moves and then you end up making your opponent look even better.”

Able to laugh at some of his lesser plays, the BYU-bound teenager is nonetheless serious about his sport.

In a few weeks, he jets off to Spain with the Real youth program to compete against some of Europe’s top club teams. When he returns, Cougar fans have a lot to look forward to from one of the team’s newcomers.

“BYU is a place that’s going to let me play good soccer but also prepares me for life,” Henderson concludes. “This is a dream come true.”
